Our center works closely with undergraduate students and graduate students as part of a rigorous and engaged process that includes teamwork and research work together with experienced scientists.
Synthesis, development and studies of biomaterials for bone tissue replacement and regeneration:
- Calcium phosphate ceramic materials;
- PMMA and calcium phosphate bone cements;
- Calcium phosphate/polymer composites and hydrogels;
- Development of novel drug delivery systems;
- Microencapsulation of biologically active substances;
- Implant prototyping;
- In vitro and in vivo studies of biomaterials.
Synthesis, development and characterization of eco-materials:
- Electroceramics: for the water treatment and thermoelectric materials;
- Porous ceramics for various applications, including, nanostructured ceramics, sorbent substrates, bioceramics and ceramics for drug delivery systems;
- Development of ceramic shaping technologies, as well as studies regarding material properties. The technologies encompass: extrusion, granulation, coating development, hollow sphere preparation etc.;
- Innovative (Latvian) clay products and thorough examination of their properties, as well as continuous exploration for the new and improved applications of numerous Latvian natural resources (peat, clay, wood etc.);
- Development of novel adsorbents for heavy metal collection, environmental clen-up (including from oil products), protein sorption, etc.;
- Synthesis of nanoparticles for various applications.
